Lyon been a great place and personally I believe it is better then Paris. Although there haven't been many open shops (because of public holidays) there is still a much friendlier atmosphere. I was also relieved to find out that the water in Lyon was actually drinkable compared to that of Paris! Our accommodation is inside a mountain just below Notre Dame, it is fresh because of the natural cooling of the rocks. While walking through the markets we found a shop that was selling a can of coke, one baguette and a desert for €5. I got camebert and dad got some sort of sea food baguette. While riding through the city streets, we saw a professional bochee tournament take place. They are much better compared to our little Narrabeen tournaments. Dad and I also stopped at a pirate lolly shop where we spent €20 on sugar. Money well spent.
Overall Lyon is a really nice place to stay and I would not have second thoughts about coming back to stay.
Thank you very much and I. Hope all of you back home have a great time.
Yours truly,
Lachlan

Like Lachlan, Lyon is a nice place to ride walk and partially talk. The Grand Lyon Park was well used today, Pentecost public holiday. Lachlans birthday cake was a gelato from one of the busiest gelato shops in town.
We rode a little over 40km's today. We went to Notre Dame Cathdral, went into two chaplets but could not go into the cathedral as Mass was taking place.
The Romans came to the area in 42 AD and the remains of the amphitheatre is still used. It was being set up for a concert. The owner of our studio said that our cave was built by the Romans during their stay.
Well today is the last known of normality until 13 July which is when our next accommodation is booked. We plan to leave about 0932 hrs and head ~east. Somewhere between here and Annecy, France.
Wish us luck as we way Lyon goodbye, here we go!
We got back from dinner last night and our hosts children ( both early 20's) invited us in for cake for lachlans birthday. Talked for about an hour and they showed us a better route for tomorrow's ride, called Via Rhona http://en.viarhona.com/

The way of St James has some if it's roots in Lyon.
We dont know what this is called. There are number of structures being built along the old docks on the Rhone. I think the second looks like a boat?
Notre Dame Lyon.

€20 on sugar! Lucky it was your birthday Lachlan! Glad your mixing with the locals, makes for a more authentic experience of another culture. Hope the next leg of the tour is as interesting as the first. Thanks for maintaining the blog. I really look forward to each post. :) xx
