Paris to Lyon. June 8

 Paul:
Yesterday we went to Le Defense to look at the Grand Arch. Approximately 110m high. There wasn't much going on yesterday. This is the new commercial area of Paris, so Saturday was quiet. A few tourists and soldiers, with machine guns. Not a common, site in Sydney.
Mass at St Joseph's near Arc De Triomph with an Irish priest.
7am rise this morning. Packed our panniers, had egg and bread breakfast before a cleanup and departure for Gare De Lyon train station. Had to pay extra for the bikes to travel.
TGV high speed train top speed for the trip of 313 km/h. I must say I feel a bit queasy in the stomach, travelling backwards and at such speeds. Not like a plane, feels different? Very comfortable all the same.

We arrived at our Lyon accommodation. The climb from the river was only 400m long but a climb of 60m. The studio is a cave in the side of the mountain. Very nice.
We went for a ride around Lyon for a couple of hours the fresh food market had closed by the variety stalls still esisted.
A Time Trial stage of a cycle race was being held in town. The only riders we clapped for that we knew were Contador and  one of the Froome's.
The church St Jean the Baptist http://cathedrale-lyon.cef.fr/ was in the town square, looked very similar to church's of Italy, as did many of the other buildings in the, original part of town. Italy is only 200km from here. It will take us 3-4 days to get there from here.

I think Kristy would like Lyon. Another time :)

Lachlan:
G'day every body hope you're all having a wonderful time in Australia! Over here dad and I are having a great time and we just left Paris on a TGV heading towards Lyon. We are ready to tour as we have bought absolutely everything we need to tour(as of yet ;). We are just getting by with the language barrier and have had a few one way conversations with people who didn't seem to understand that we only spoke a slither of French. We are looking forward to riding through Europe and we will get back to you soon. Have a great time,
Lachlan

COURTYARD.
